MUSIC LIBRARIES/DATABASES: Tested Freeware
We were looking for a clean, fast and well designed easy to use Audio Database / Library.
We were not interested in a one-stop-shop-do-everything-confusing-and-bloated-nightmare audio "solution".
CRITERIA
- A very good database and audio library.
- Must be easy to use and intuitive with a clear and well designed interface.
- Must be fast and light on system resources.
- Must be able to backup settings and library / database.
- Must be able to synchronise directories and auto update the database quickly on start-up and remove non-existent entries.
- Mustn't require the installation of any other software (i.e. .NET framework or JAVA) to run.
- Mustn't be promoting some commercial service or serve as a marketing tool.
- No adware or spyware (obviously)
- Not interested in any online lookup services.
- Tagging should be possible but not essential (tagging is best done by tagging software).
- Good playlist management and creation - dynamic playlists a plus.
- Drag and drop to other applications.
- Must be able to recognise, play and manage: ACC, OGG, MPC, MP3, FLAC, WavPack, Wav
- Good sound quality.
- Should be able to record a play history.
- Export to Excel, CSV, HTML a plus.
- If setup and configuration are time consuming the time spent must be rewarded by performance and utility and thus future time-saving.
