REMOVING NEEDLES FROM HAYSTACKS Using spectrum analysis to identify glitches for repairCan you spot the click in the waveform below? Keep in mind that at this zoom level, the cursor flashes across the screen and co-ordinating what you hear with what you see is tricky (light travels much faster than sound). Clicking on the image will reveal the whereabouts of the click in the space below.
Not easy to find, and zooming in further often makes it harder. Not all glitches stand out visually; sometimes it really is like looking for a needle in a haystack. [click on this blank image if you didn't click on the one above.]
USING SPECTRUM ANALYSISThis is where Spectrum Analysis comes into its own. Below is another section from the same song. In the normal Waveform View (1) it's almost impossible to visually locate the click, however it's pretty straightforward in Spectral View (2).
Zooming in and reverting to Waveform View (3) confirms that this is indeed the damaged section we heard. It's now possible to zoom in further and repair the damaged samples. Back to the top |
